Summary: Colin and Harper chat.

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 4:20:48 PM) The cafeteria had a surprisingly good array of breakfast items and because she didn't feel like making it herself and got it for free at the island, she ate there. They did not serve breakfast past 10 am, like McDonalds, however, so you had to get there early. And early she did, staring down at the bowl of peaches, small fluffy pile of scrambled eggs, and bacon. She had kind of wished she'd brought her sunglasses, however, to hide her sleepy eyes. She'd stayed up watching movies entirely too late last night. Progression and reconciliation of her core beliefs took time. Picking up her fork, she poked at the eggs and picked up a forkful of them, stifling a yawn.

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 4:28:48 PM) Colin had stayed at Aria's, recuperating, for a few too many days. Not that he didn't appreciate her taking care of him, and not that he didn't enjoy her company, but he was feeling like it was time to, you know, get a fresh pair of clothes and maybe go home. He was feeling pretty much 100% when he woke up this morning, and instead of disturbing Aria, he decided to let her sleep and just have breakfast at the caf.He stepped into the large room, smiling politely at the people he passed as he picked up a tray and got his food, a more traditional (and cholesterol-laden) selection of crispy bacon, toast and scrambled eggs. With a cup of orange juice, to cover a different food group. He offered Harper a little wave with his free hand as he sat down in a chair in the table next to hers, pulling out his phone and setting it on the table beside his tray. Mason had kindly installed a few games on the device for him.

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 4:33:00 PM) The cafeteria wasn't that busy, so when someone new arrived she noticed, glancing over. "Oh…hey Colin," she said, smiling softly. She'd read about what happened in the mission file. It was…well. "How are you feeling?"

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 4:37:51 PM) He smiled gleefully, a forkful of scrambled eggs halfway to his mouth. "I grew an arm the other day."He put the fork in his mouth, smiled again, and looked back down at his food.

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 4:42:56 PM) Her eyes widened and her eggs slipped off her fork, dropping back onto the plate. "Seriously?" she said, mouth falling agape. She smiled back broadly. "Wow, is…did…can you…do you do that a lot?"

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 4:46:23 PM) "No," he said as he set his fork down. He put his phone on the tray, then picked it up and moved to Harper's table. "First time! The new guy, Gabe, lost his arm in some war or something? I can't remember. But he came to me because Jax said I might be able to fix it, and I tried, and it worked. First time! I was a little worried I'd leave him with like, this mass of useless flesh and bone, but it actually came out arm-shaped and everything." He grinned.

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 4:50:55 PM) "Gabe…oh…the metal controller…" she said, nodding with new-found eagerness. Resting her elbows on the table, she listened. "Wow. He can actually move his hands, arms. joints, everything? And no problems? For either of you?" That seemed like a big step…regrowing actual limbs.

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 4:56:09 PM) "Not sure, haven't seen him. Things seemed fine when he left though." He looked thoughtful as he raised a piece of bacon to his lips. "I was fine. Wiped out, though, slept for pretty much a whole day. Aria's been taking care of me." A small smile crossed his face. "She's really great."

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 4:59:30 PM) "Wow," she said."So do you mostly just handle physical damage to the body or can you do other things?" she said. She had read a little about him, about most of the others really, but she wanted to hear it from the actual person. Because there were things that sometimes didn't get on a dossier. She smiled. "She's really nice,' she said. The two of them were people she wouldn't have expected in this type of work.

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 5:04:03 PM) A shadow crossed his face, and he looked down, focusing intently on his breakfast. He chewed slowly, giving himself time to formulate a response."Um, mostly physical damage." Well, it was true, that is what he mostly handled. Sure, it may not be all that he could do, but he really didn't need to go into that, or how he knew it."You know, um, healing and stuff." He finished off his eggs.Looking up again, he changed the subject. "So, you. You've been okay? Enjoying being on the good guy's side?" He smiled.

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 5:09:11 PM) Blinking a little, she looked around toward other people. "Right," she said. Raw nerve, dark subject.Certainly identifiable. It was her turn to look to her food, taking another forkful of cooling eggs and getting a bite."It's all certainly been very interesting," she said with a soft smile. From the sounds of things, nothing had gone out yet about what happened. She moved onto her peaches, staring down at the bowl. "I guess it takes some getting used to."

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 5:17:40 PM) "It does," he said, nodding, thankful to be talking about something else. "My first mission I was so nervous. Jax and I had to go to Uruguay— or Paraguay? One of them. Anyways. There was a guerrilla group or something that had taken some Kerberos social workers hostage. They were trying to help some village or something with something like farming?" The details were hazy."Anyways. I just about dropped my gun, I was so nervous, but the guy, the head honcho guy, we got him cornered in a room of the factory thing they were using, right? And he had a baby. His own baby! And he was threatening to shoot her. It was wild." He shook his head, picking up another piece of bacon."Anyways, we stopped him. Saved the people, too. The social workers went out and helped the people turn over some dirt or whatever so they could actually grow things. It was pretty cool."

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 5:25:04 PM) She didn't know what to say to something like that, falling back on default responses such as blinking and nodding. Then she realized she was doing it and tried to get more talkative. "I know a social worker. Or I did…One of my mom's old friends. She operates out of Harlem. It's a tough job, even for somewhere local."

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 5:29:30 PM) "Seriously." He nodded in agreement. "I think it's cool, though, how Kerberos sends people out there to help other people, with their powers and stuff." He paused, considering. "You know, when they don't get kidnapped or murdered or whatever."He took another bite of bacon."So, yeah."

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 5:36:19 PM) She nodded. "Those are bad," she said with a softly amused smirk. Back down to bacon and eggs on her plate, she fiddled with them a bit more, as silence returned for a few moments…until…"So…I think I'm going to have a party. At my place."It just came to her. It'd be easier to hang out with people in groups, maybe. Or worse. Probably better. But either way it'd help with the melting of the ice."Do you want to come? With Aria?" she said. "We'll have liquor." She had been a veteran of parties with far more savory party themes and bouts of destruction but having a more toned down one would be nice. And Ray wouldn't mind if she widened the net to his boy and other people.

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 5:39:35 PM) Colin looked up. "A party? Yeah, sure. That sounds like fun." His smile faltered at the mention of liquor. "Yeah, I'll bring some pop. Soda. Coke? What do you call it again?" He scratched at his neck. "I'm sure Aria will want to come. I'm actually going home after this, though, so you should ask her. When is it?"

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 5:42:40 PM) "Dark fizzy carbonated water," she said, then smiled. She laughed. "Don't worry, I don't drink a lot either. It's for everyone else." Apparently it wasn't a party until people got shit-faced."Not sure yet, actually. I'm kind of winging it. I'll think about it and get back to her."

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 5:58:21 PM) He nodded. "That's cool, then. Just text me or whatever." He dipped a piece of toast in the small pile of ketchup he had on his plate."You don't live on the island, right? You're in the city?"

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 6:01:40 PM) Ketchup and toast? Well to each his own."Yeah…I'll give you or Aria the address" She also supposed she better go one better than biting the bullet and invite Jax and Rook. That ice better be damn non-existent afterward.

Colin Chambers (Drew) (8/1/2009 6:07:40 PM) He nodded, and slipped his phone back in his pocket."Sounds good." His chair scraped loudly across the floor as he stood. "So I guess I'll see you around, Harper." He smiled, turning to drop his tray off for the dishes to be washed.

Harper Essen (Mackinzie) (8/1/2009 6:11:33 PM) She gave him a tiny wave, nodding back."Bye," she said. Slow baby steps. It would help her make her decision better. First things first however….finishing breakfast and then….back to bed.
